Architecture Assistant
Design, Construction & Facilities Management
The New School

The New School Department of Design, Construction and Facilities Management is engaged in a wide range of planning, design and construction activities for the benefit of the students, faculty and staff of the University's diverse academic divisions. The Architecture Assistant will provide support for these activities through drawing, design, space inventory, furniture selection and related technical and architectural services. The position requires the ability to work productively and collaboratively with several architecture, engineering and facilities management professionals, in a very busy environment; to manage multiple requests simultaneously, often under deadline; and to address frequent changes and challenges with skill, resourcefulness, initiative and good humor.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare CAD drawings, feasibility studies, design, furniture or materials selection for small-scale renovation projects, office moves and various facility upgrades
• Manage small-scale projects from inception through completion
• Survey University spaces, coordinate with project managers and make changes as needed to maintain an accurate and complete space information system consisting of plans and descriptive data for all buildings
• Photograph existing spaces and recently completed projects; work with the Office of Communications and contribute materials to the department's website

Requirements:

• Architecture degree and a minimum of two years of demonstrably successful work experience in a professional environment
• Excellent design and graphics software skills
