Assistant Professor of Spanish - Tenure Track

East Stroudsburg University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Spanish beginning August 2010. Positions typically fill at the Assistant Professor rank. As part of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), we offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities: Teach all levels of Spanish language, literature and culture. There is a four-course / three-preparation teaching load per semester. Participate actively in advising and departmental and university governance. Embrace current and future program development at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Service and scholarship are expected. In addition, the individual will be expected to contribute to curriculum development and process improvement. Distance learning and/or off-campus teaching opportunities may be possible.

Required Qualifications: ABD candidates may apply but should make clear what progress they have made on their dissertation. Near-native fluency in English and Spanish. Experience living or studying in a Spanish-speaking country. Successful Spanish college level teaching required. Demonstrated evidence of ongoing scholarly activity involving undergraduates.

Preferred Qualifications: The following characteristics will enhance an applicant's candidacy; Earned doctorate in Spanish or related discipline. Preparation as Latin Americanist preferred, but others will be considered. Ability to teach a second language a plus. Significant experience in one or more of the following areas: business/legal Spanish, translation, Spanish for the health/social services, second language acquisition, K-12 language teaching. Evidence of integration of educational technologies into instruction. Applicants who demonstrate a commitment to teaching and scholarship are preferred.
