Associate Director

Heart of American Indian Center
Kansas City, Missouri

The Heart of American Indian Center of Kansas City, Missouri, seeks applicants for an Associate Director to provide support to the Acting Executive Director and serve the will of the Board of Directors. The Associate Director will perform administrative duties and will over see; operational, fiscal, personnel and program functions of the Heart of American Indian Center. This Position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound independent judgment and take initiative.


Job Description

Organizational: Seek new funding sources, implement all decisions an directives of the Board of Directors, Report on financial and program status to the Board of Directors, review existing programs, creating new programs, fulfill the organization’s mission. Communicate with the Board of Directors and all committee chairman concerning issues of the organization.


Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, must be able to meet deadlines, prioritize, will be able to multi-task, be highly organized, detail oriented and accurate. It is essential that the Associate Director communicate effectively with representatives of other organizations, non profit organizations, and a diverse spectrum of groups and individuals. The position has significant administrative responsibilities in addition to grant research and program support responsibilities.

Administrative
Develop and monitor the Board of Directors -approved annual budget and manage the organization’s cash flow on a day to day basis. Supervise and administer the business and maintenance operations of the organization. Ensure that records for personnel, financial, program, Board of Director actions or meetings and all other records are properly maintained. Ensure the organization is in compliance with all federal and state nonprofit reporting requirements Work cooperatively with the bookkeeper on all day to day accounting needs and all other pertinent issues. Work cooperatively with CPA on annual or special financial audit, statements, and federal tax returns. Work cooperatively with attorneys on contracts, tax exemption, and other legal matters related to the organization. Semi-Annually review organizational insurance policies, and provide written report on status and recommendations to the Board of Directors. Review all written policies and procedures and make written recommendations regarding changes to be approved by the Board of Directors on an ongoing basis. Implement programs that will raise funds for general operations and capital improvements.




Management

Plan, organize, direct, supervise, evaluate all organizational activities.
Hire, supervise, evaluate and terminate staff, provide motivation, encouragement.
Administer personnel policies
Review office operations
Ensure computer hardware is kept up-to-date
Organize personnel resources including volunteers and interns.
Oversee staff publications and web sites
Identify constituent concerns and implement solutions
Staff meetings
Participate in Board of Director meetings

Fund Raising

Direct the development of proposals for funding of specific projects and general support
Oversee all fun raising activities
Direct all other development activities


Public Relations

Serve as spokesperson for the organization through personal contact with the media and the community, web sites, awareness programs, education materials, personal contacts, internet marketing, and personal site visitation.


Qualifications

College Degree a plus but not required
Knowledge of Native American Culture
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge computers and the use of sophisticated technology
Strong attention to detail and be able to juggle multiple priorities effectively
Must have enthusiasm, optimism and a sense of humor and
A commitment for the goals and mission of The Heart of American Indian Center
Extensive experience working in the Native American community providing social and cultural services is desirable.
Supervisory and management experience is desirable

Compensation

Compensation will be as determined in writing by the Board of Directors, but is not to exceed available funding sources in the Board of Directors approved annual operating budget:
Normal work hours will be: This is a salaried position and normal work hours will vary as required to successfully fulfill assigned responsibilities.
Benefits and Leave accruals will be in accordance with the most current version of the employee rules and procedures approved by the Board of Directors.
