The Wichita State University, College of Education, Department of Educational Leadership offers innovative, field-based, inquiry-driven Master’s, District Leadership, and EdD programs. The nationally recognized Master’s and Doctoral programs are cohort-based and work closely with school districts and school leadership. Field-based research projects conducted in the doctoral program are initiated by school districts, and emphasize the integration of theory, inquiry, and practice. The department’s mission is to provide innovative, collaborative educational opportunities for the practitioner-scholar in diverse settings. Therefore, we desire to create a collegial, supportive learning environment for students and for each other. We are seeking applicants for a tenure-eligible Associate or Full professor to teach in the EdD and Master’s programs. Position start date is August 2010.
Required Qualifications:
1. Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university with specialization in educational leadership or related field in education;
2. Leadership experience in a pk-12 educational setting;
3. A strong record of publication and scholarship expected for rank of Associate or Full Professor in a doctoral degree granting program; and
4. Evidence of promoting and supporting diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Evidence of collaboration and consensus building;
2. Experience chairing doctoral dissertations;
3. Experience conducting field-based research;
4. Experience as a building and/or district-level leader: and
5. Ability to use current and emerging applications of technology.
Responsibilities:
The associate/full professor will:
(a) teach courses in the EdD and Master’s programs;
(b) advise doctoral dissertations and serve on dissertation committees;
(c) maintain a level of scholarly productivity appropriate for rank and working with students at the doctoral level;
(d) represent the department through participation in department, college, university, and professional service.
Background
Wichita State is Kansas' only urban-serving research university and offers a traditional college atmosphere in an urban environment. In addition to the Department’s innovative programs, WSU is renown for a strong engineering program that attracts international students as well as a thriving fine arts program.
The College of Education is home to 55 full time faculty with around 1800 graduate and undergraduate majors. The college is housed in three campus buildings, one of which is Frank Lloyd Wright designed and was fully renovated with new state-of-the-art learning technology in 2007. The college also houses the Center for Research and Evaluation Services.
The Wichita metropolitan area, with a population area of more than 500,000, has a sizeable culturally diverse population. The city offers outstanding opportunities for academic and professional development and has a spirit of inventiveness from the aeronautics industry. There is an active arts and cultural community and is also an easy drive to Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and the Ozarks’ resort areas. It is a great place to raise a family with a school system that offers parental choice options, sporting venues, and many activities for children. Median house prices are significantly lower than in other parts of the country as is the cost of living overall. Wichita has large city amenities with a small town feeling.
