The University of North Carolina – Pembroke, one of the fastest growing units of The University of North Carolina system, seeks an energetic and committed leader to guide the School of Business, which is aggressively pursuing AACSB accreditation. The School offers two undergraduate degree programs, with concentrations in eight areas, and an MBA. The combined enrollment is approximately 600 students. The Thomas Family Center for Entrepreneurship also operates under the auspices of the School of Business. Courses are offered on the main campus, at regional centers in Southern Pines, Cape Fear, Richmond, and at Ft. Bragg. There is also an online degree program.
The responsibilities of the Dean include leading the efforts to secure AACSB accreditation, promoting excellence in teaching, research and service, and overseeing the direction of the three departments and the MBA program as well as the Thomas Family Center for Entrepreneurship. The Dean reports to the Provost and serves as the School’s key representative and advocate to the University’s administration and its key liaison with other academic units. In addition, the Dean oversees the functions of budgeting, faculty and student recruitment, retention, and fundraising; promotes the School and the Thomas Family Center in the community; maintains contacts with local and regional businesses and alumni; represents the School in University leadership meetings; and supports the continuous improvement of the School.
The candidate is required to have completed a terminal degree in a business or related field. The candidate’s record of scholarship in a business or related functional area of expertise as well as his or her record of excellence in teaching and service must merit tenure at the full professor level. Evidence of administrative and organizational skills, fundraising ability, managing academic organizations, working effectively and collegially with members of the campus and community, promoting shared governance, and achieving growth in enrollments is also desirable. A strong background in leading AACSB accreditation, substantial experience in leadership in higher education, a commitment to diversity, and an understanding of fiscal management procedures are preferred.
