The Director of the Gimbel Library reports to the University Librarian and will manage the day-to-day operations and short and long term planning of the Gimbel Library. Gimbel's collection supports teaching and learning in art and design disciplines. The ideal candidate will be a leader with experience working in a team-based environment; have management and decision-making abilities; and possess the ability to foster collegiality and flexibility in others. He or she will be well organized, a creative thinker, and able to interact effectively with a broad clientele including faculty, students, and art and design professionals.

The Adam & Sophie Gimbel Design Library boasts a collection that not only supports art, architecture, and design fields, but also inspires the creative process. A fascinating collection of books and periodicals as well as a large and circulating Picture Collection encompass such fields as furniture and interior design, typography, photography, graphic arts, fashion design, and aesthetics and techniques.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage professional and union support staff
- Participate in the creation and implementation of library policies and procedures
- Collaborate on long-range planning and budgeting for the University Library
- Administer the implementation of an information literacy agenda
- Determine and meet the resource needs of Parsons The New School for Design
- Coordinate collection development in art and design
- Other duties as required

Requirements:
- ALA accredited MLS
- Advanced degree (preferably in art, design, art history or a related field)
- Professional library experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- Supervisory and management experience in an academic library
- Demonstrated knowledge of art, design and related fields
- Knowledge of information technology and major bibliographic utilities
- Understanding of current issues in academic librarianship and higher education
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
