Description of Duties:
The Director of Bioinformatics Research duties will include, but not be limited to: advanced and general bioinformatics support, including software development, management, use and guidance; database development and implementation; system administration.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in computer science or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization; AND a minimum of 5 years experience with Java (including JSP, EJB), SQL, JDBC, UML, HTML, multithreaded and distributed programming, and LINUX. Must have experience with Linux, SVN and MySQL administration. Candidate must have a firm knowledge of post transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, particularly RNA binding proteins, their recognition motifs and miRNA; extensive knowledge of structural RNA, including non-canonical base pairing and three way junctions; experience with RNA secondary structure prediction tools (i.e., RNAFold / MFold), motif definition and pattern searching algorithms (i.e., PatSearch) and miRNA target prediction tools (RNAHybrid, MiRanda, etc.). Candidate must have understanding of Microarray and sequencing technologies and analysis; basic knowledge of statistics; should be comfortable with PERL and C/C++; general aptitude for biology and natural sciences. Candidate must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Must have experience reading and writing scientific literature. Candidates must be able to address in their applications their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in computer science related field
