Notes: There are 2 full-time, career positions available. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime, travel and travel outside of normal business hours may be required.
Effective September 1, 2009, the University of California, Riverside has implemented a one-year Furlough/Salary Reduction Plan due to the state budget crisis. Under the plan, this position’s work time will be reduced by a specified number of days according to the salary for this position, with a commensurate reduction in pay evenly distributed over a 12-month period. Essential Functions: The General Manager (GM) provides operational oversight and support to the management team and supervisors in a residential or retail restaurant on the campus of UC Riverside. The GM also coordinates personnel, staffing, procurement, marketing, menu development, financial analysis and reporting, customer service, safety and sanitation and fiscal controls in residential restaurants or retail restaurants with annual sales in excess of $3 million.
This position works under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Dining.
Minimum Requirements:
• Graduation from college preferably with training in a food service management or dietetics, and three years of management experience in a food service operation; or a equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Serve safe certified.
• Experience within a customer service oriented environment responding to and meeting/exceeding the needs of the customer in a high volume, continuous public contact setting.
• Experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of others to accomplish daily operational goals in multiple locations.
• Experience with food preparation in a large retail food service operation with skill taking food temperatures while maintenance of sanitary and safety standards.
• Experience with preparation of operational budgets and related financial analysis, experience with sourcing and specifying food, equipment, and supplies.
• Experience in a supervisory role responsible for hiring, evaluating, directing, disciplining, and complaint resolution.
• Experience with training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel.
• Experience with inventory control functions, including experience in physical inventory counts, receiving, and storage of materials.
• Experience in directing, organizing, and prioritizing workload to meet required deadlines and departmental objectives.
• Experience with maintaining simple or moderately complex databases through data entry, data queries, and database design modifications.
• Experience with Internet search engines for data gathering purposes.
• Skill in understanding and interpreting the department's policies and procedures to customers.
• Skill in effectively communicating with tact and diplomacy and maintaining a commitment to excellence in customer service.
• Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy with internal and external campus community including international visitors.
• Skill in identifying discrepancies between the physical inventory counts and the recorded inventory counts.
• Skill in analyzing inventory data.
• Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, computing ratios, rates, and percentages, skill in creating and editing documents in word processing applications using moderately advanced features.
• Skill in creating spreadsheets and reports using Word, Access, Excel, FileMaker Pro, or other software application, skill in exporting/importing data from or to different software applications or data collection and retrieval.
• Knowledge of marketing food related services and current food trends.
• Knowledge of food service management, including sanitary and safety standards, cost control and expense analysis, and food selection and ordering.
• Ability to speak English using appropriate grammar and vocabulary sufficient to communicate effectively with all staff, management, and customers.
Injury Illness Prevention Program Guidelines:
• Works in a safe and responsible manner while not putting self or others at risk.
• Must be able to exert well-paced mobility of up to four hours in length and stand continuously throughout an eight hour shift on uncarpeted surfaces.
• Must be able to move 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally following proper safety guidelines.
• Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, push, pull, reach, and crouch for extended periods of time, as required to complete job assignments.
• Ability to work in temperature extremes, continuous noise, and physical risks found in food service environments.
• Comply with applicable policies and procedures and regulations, using personal safety gear, observing warning signs, learning about potential hazards, and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Hired applicant must possess a valid California Driver's License; and must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Skill in communicating orally and in written format in both English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of supervisory and management principles equivalent to a certificate or coursework in a supervisory development program.
• Knowledge of federal employment and labor regulations including EEO and Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) regulations.
