ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFRO) and Leadership Gift Officers (LGO), the incumbent is responsible for writing proposals for a variety of programs and projects, for submitting timely and accurate reports on all existing grants, and for proactively identifying and qualifying prospective individual, corporate and foundation major donors consistent with the University's priorities and objectives. As the Grant Writer, under the supervision of the CFRO:

  • Conducts the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources of external funding.
  • Performs research on foundations and corporations.
  • Works with campus departments to gather information needed for submitting proposals.
  • Complies with all grant reporting requirements, restrictions and guidelines.
  • Provides stewardship to current corporate and foundation donors.
  • Coordinates meetings and activities, primarily for the Corporate & Foundation Relations Officer.
  • Maintains current records in the donor database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Tracks statistics relevant to fundraising and provide written materials necessary for donor stewardship.
  • Keeps current in the grant writing industry. Informs Development personnel and campus staff of updates and changes.

As the Prospect Research Analyst, under the supervision of the LGO:

  • Plans and executes strategies to identify sources of major gift private support for fundraising initiatives.
  • Analyzes, assesses, verifies, and compiles information on prospects from local, national, and international resources. Identifies, obtains, and interprets detailed financial and legal disclosures including corporate reports, foundation tax reports, and state, county, and court documents. Accesses database services as available and appropriate.
  • Compiles and writes prospect research reports. Produces in-depth profiles on major gift prospects as assigned. Utilizes quantitative criteria to evaluate each identified prospect's potential and propensity to give.
  • Attends Prospect Management meetings. Presents research data. Recommends strategies for cultivation and solicitation. Develops strategies to ensure that newly identified prospects are presented and assigned to fundraisers in a timely and competent manner.
  • Prepares briefings and presents to key campus officials.
  • Provides consultative services and orientation sessions on research methodologies and resources to fundraisers, faculty and other key personnel involved in fundraising.
  • Researches and identify potential volunteers for a variety of campus projects and programs, including but not limited to fundraising events, advisory committees, and Board memberships.
  • Adheres to strict campus and industry standards of discretion and confidentiality. Adheres to campus policies, processes and procedures. Establishes and updates prospect research procedures, processes and practices.
  • Enters and maintains prospect information in the donor database. Assist with information management.
  • Keeps current with new methodologies, resources, and updates in the prospect research industry. Recommends resources. Designs, evaluates and implements improved research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques.

Other Functions:

  • Works in a team environment with Development and Advancement Services staff in supporting the mutual goal of promoting campus relationships.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of technical or administrative experience in prospect research, development, library research, grant writing or a related field preferably in an academic environment. Demonstrated experience involving analysis and evaluation leading to the development or improvement of student administrative policies, procedures and/or practices. Additional experience, which has demonstrated the requisite skills/abilities, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.
