Notes: This is a full-time, career position. Expected duration is one year and may be extended, depending on funding. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime and travel may be required.
The University of California, Riverside is implementing cost reduction measures due to the state budget crisis. Effective November 1, 2009 through October 31, 2010, this position’s work time will be reduced according to a specified plan. Essential Functions: The Laboratory Assistant II provides research assistance on the Collaborative Family Study, a multi-site longitudinal study of children and their families. Schedules staff meetings and family assessments, data management (collection/entry/checking/cleaning), participates in new English-and-Spanish-speaking family recruitment, administers child assessments, interviews parents about their child's development in English or Spanish.
The assistant also purchases/orders supplies for the project, maintains a positive working relationship with participating families, Principal Investigators, doctoral students and staff from UCR. This position is required to attend project meetings at UCR once a week. Must have previous research experience with families and children with special needs. Work is performed under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, and the incumbent must follow research project protocol at all times, maintaining the validity and reliability of the conducted research. This person also needs to exercise independent judgment, creativity and initiative when dealing with participating families and staff in order to identify problems, recommends and implements solutions.
This position works under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other field providing knowledge of children's development.
• Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with co-workers on a variety of administrative, research, and clinical functions.
• Skill in interacting and working collaboratively with persons of various social, cultural, economic, educational and ability backgrounds.
• Skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities in order to complete work in a timely manner.
• Skill in speaking clearly and concisely using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information to individuals at various organizational levels.
• Skill in writing and preparing routine administrative correspondences, such as agendas, reports, letters, and e-mails using proper grammar and spelling.
• Skill in using desk-top computers and software applications.
• Knowledge of developmental delays and emotional/behavioral problems in children.
• Knowledge of descriptive statistics and SPSS program.
• Working knowledge of University forms, policies and procedures such as PAC, subject reimbursement, mileage reimbursements, etc.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, doctoral students, administration, staff, interns, and participating families.
• Ability to speak fluent Spanish.
• Ability to work independently.
• Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
