The budgeted monthly starting salary range for this part-time position (50%) will be $1,840 - $3,091. Schedule of hours will be variable. Public driving record will be required at time of hire.
Essential Functions: The Network Resource Specialist position has been created to provide assistance to the University of California Natural Reserve Systems (UCNRS) Information Manager and thus to the UCNRS reserve system throughout the State of California.
The projects that will be provided encompass advance network installation in remote locations (Idyllwild and/or Mammoth Mountain) as well as computer database, web programming and network support.
The first part of this position involves the planning and deployment of network infrastructures at a natural reserve. Applicant should have the skills of a Network Resource Specialist in order to provide a wide range of technical and consultative services in the design, acquisition, installation / configuration, operation and maintenance of networks. This position may require climbing of tall towers or other structures in order to properly position radio equipment.
The second part of the position will be to serve in the capacity of computer resource specialist, which may include database entry, web site maintenance, and network troubleshooting.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with at least 2 years experience in data networks, radio frequency (RF) or systems engineering.
• Experiences in web site development and maintenance.
• Experience in database entry, web site maintenance, and network server troubleshooting.
• Experience in day-to-day computer and network administration and network troubleshooting support.
• Experienced climber, practiced working at heights in remote rugged terrain and often extreme weather conditions.
• Skills of a Network Resource Specialist in order to provide a wide range of technical and consultative services in the design acquisition, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of networks.
• Skill set to include dynamic (i.e. lead and top rope belay) and static (i.e. hauling) rope systems, anchor systems, belay, free climbing and aid techniques.
• Knowledge and expertise in wireless network RF and architectural protocols (i.e. point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, mesh), as well as data aspects of networks.
• Familiar with OSHA fall protection equipment and practices as well as knowledge of safety systems used when climbing.
• Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions.
• Able to ascend and work atop towers up to 100 feet tall using appropriate safety measures and equipment in remote areas and difficult weather conditions.
• Ability to travel by auto extensively, as many of the projects are in remote areas.
• Must be willing and able to learn new skills essential to the duties of this position.
• Must be willing to work in very remote locations and environments.
• Must have access to a personal computer.
• Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice; and possess a valid California Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Filemaker database management.
• PHP and MySQL programming skills.
• Knowledge of Apache server administration and Macintosh servers, and Windows server maintenance.
• Working knowledge of Joomla administrative interface and site development.
