Notes: This is a full-time, contract position. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime and evenings and/or weekends may be required.
Essential Functions: This is a dual level recruitment for a Student Affairs Officer I, or a Student Affairs Officer II position depending on qualifications. The distinction between the Student Affairs Officer I level and the Student Affairs Officer II level is position related experience, degree requirement, and the degree of independence with which the incumbent performs the wide variety of professional duties.
The Asian Pacific Student Program (APSP) Coordinator provides support and development services for UC Riverside's undergraduate community. The Program Coordinator organizes events and activities designed to raise the general student body's awareness and appreciation of the Asian and Pacific Islander experience.
Under the general direction of the Director, the Program Coordinator supervises the Asian and Pacific Islander Women’s Mentor Program; plans, implements and evaluates cultural and educational programs; plans and implements leadership development activities, and coordinates cross cultural programs with other campus departments. This position works with the APSP staff to identify student interests, issues, and concerns, and uses this information to develop and implement appropriate programs and activities. The Program Coordinator also serves as advisor to various student organizations, including the Asian Pacific Islander Student Advisory Council. In addition, the Program Coordinator prepares material for APSP's web site and quarterly newsletter, as well as written reports and evaluations on events and activities.
In addition to the above, at the Student Affairs Officer (Level II) the incumbent is responsible for: Assisting in the human resources management of the APSP student staff which includes, but is not limited to hiring, training, evaluation, and corrective action as needed. Develop and implement appropriate assessment and evaluation strategies for APSP’s programs, events, and activities and collaborates with other University units in the development of a strategic plan for the unit and University as a whole.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Skill in planning and scheduling projects to deliver project goals on time and within budget.
• Skill in evaluating and improving the methods and resources used by the organization.
• Skill in learning and adapting to the programmatic context (history, direction, leadership, funding, and relationships.).
• Skill in connecting, sponsoring, and mentoring people with relevant activities on campus.
• Skill in transferring organizational knowledge.
• Skill in collaborating with other organizations to leverage resources.
• Skill in utilizing resources innovatively and encouraging innovation among others.
• Skill in working effectively under time and workload pressures while handling diverse projects.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Skill to independently compose letters, memos, reports, and other written communication materials, for a variety of audiences, using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading skills.
• Excellent composition skills, including knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
• Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in working with issues and concerns affecting the Asian and Pacific Islander community.
• Demonstrated knowledge of development and implementation of educational and leadership programs for students, especially in the context of Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
• Ability to plan and implement a wide array of student educational and development programs, including event planning, promotions and publicity, and assessment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to take risks and act as a catalyst for change.
• Ability to understand and appropriately interpret University policies and regulations.
• Ability to successfully and effectively utilize the University’s online systems (e.g. printing & repro, media services, facilities, physical plant) to support the department’s programming efforts.
In addition to the minimum requirements described above, at the Student Affairs Officer II level, the incumbent will possess the following: • Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with student program administration.
• Experience supervising student assistants.
• Hired applicant must possess a valid California Driver's License; must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
