Responsibilities
The PhD Program Manager reports to the Director of the PhD in Nursing Program offered in the School of Nursing, Bouvé College of Health Sciences. The duties include daily coordination of PhD program activities including recruitment, application, selection, enrollment and progression of students; recruitment and hiring of faculty and alignment of students with faculty advisors; management and reporting relative to grant award and renewals; coordination of advisory board and PhD committee and other projects as may be required.
The Program Manager coordinates on-going program advertisement and recruitment, participating in open house and virtual open house events, responds to queries, monitors on-line applications and coordinates interviews and follow-through. The individual functions as a team member in conjunction with nursing administration, faculty, staff and graduate students. He/she manages the HRSA award including budgetary responsibilities, oversight of SGA awards, and facilitation of student acquisition of additional funding support. He/she develops budget reports and analysis and manages day-to-day financial transactions relative to the program.
The Program Manager assumes responsibility for processing and submitting pre-doctoral fellowships and serves as liaison between the PhD program and the Program Officer at National Institute of Nursing Research and conducts continuous surveillance of funding priority areas. He/she provides management and budget oversight for all grant awards received through this mechanism maintains a database of funding sources for doctoral education for the benefit of current and prospective students.
The Program Manager monitors course offerings, identifies potential program faculty from the advisory board membership, assists in hiring of part-time faculty and provides advisement to students regarding their programs of study. The Program Manager assumes a lead role in facilitating the dissertation process and ensures that dissertations are completed and catalogued in accordance with University policy. He/she maintains a file of academic work for matriculating students, monitors enrollment and student progression, contributes support to the administration of comprehensive exams and maintains records of exam results.
The Program Manager works closely with the project director in a range of activities including course evaluations and formative program evaluations, implementation of evaluation strategies and data collection, preparing and submitting progress reports to funding agency and submitting competitive renewal grant applications. The Program Manager provides linkage between the PhD project director and affiliated faculty (School of Nursing, Bouvé College and the University), advisory board members, nursing faculty and students. He/she may also assume responsibility for special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field is required; Masters of Science degree preferred, and minimum of 5-6 years of academic administrative experience. Strong demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal required. Excellent computer, organizational and analytical skills required. The incumbent must be able to multi-task, work independently, assume initiative with program related activities and handle confidential information. Must have experience working with MS-Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and various e-mail programs. Endnote and Adobe Acrobat preferred. The individual must have experience with NIH grants program, development of grant budgets, and must have demonstrated competence with the electronic submission of grant applications to NIH.
