SENIOR PHYSICAL PLANNER
Capital and Physical Planning
Salary Commensurate with Experience
Notes: This is a full-time, career position. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Essential Functions: The Senior Physical Planner performs duties for the Capital and Physical Planning office within the Capital Programs division at UCR. In this context, the key responsibilities of this position include:
• Administrative and technical oversight for campus physical and environmental planning activities.
• Assist in the management of consultant teams for a variety of physical planning studies and activities to support physical planning objectives.
• Evaluate and analyze data related to physical and environmental planning issues to develop options for physical development.
• Provide staff support and technical expertise for committees related to physical and environmental planning issues.
• Represent the Associate Vice Chancellor and Campus Physical Planner as appropriate in campus university-wide and external agency settings as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree with major work in city and regional planning, environmental planning, landscape architecture, urban design or a related field. As well as 5 years of progressively responsible experience in these same areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Windows-based productivity software, including spreadsheets, word-processing and presentation programs.
• Demonstrated experience in writing and editing program planning documents. or an equivalent combination of education.
• Excellent analytical skills and experience, preferably in physical planning and/or environmental analysis.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate objectives and issues and work effectively with ser groups, internal technical staff, and outside consultants.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including oversight and preparation of complex CEQA documents.
• Expert knowledge of regulatory requirements, codes and Federal/State/Regional regulations specific to physical planning and environmental analysis.
• Knowledge of physical planning, and environmental analysis terminology and methods.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and analyses to lay audiences both in campus community and the general public.
• Ability to work independently, to work effectively as a member of a team, and be able to work under pressure of timelines.
• Ability to write and edit documents involving complex proposals and justifications.
• Sound judgment and sensitivity to issues of policy and process.
• Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in city/regional planning, environmental planning, landscape architecture, urban design or related field.
• Experience with CAD/GIS/design and graphics software packages (e.g. AutoCAD, Archibus, Form Z, 3-D Studio Viz, Sketch Up, Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, Corel Draw etc.).
• Experience using above tool(s) for ad hoc studies and analyses.
