Sikh Studies has been growing ever since the Sadarni Kuljit Kaur Bindra Chair
in Sikh Studies was established in 2001. This chair, which resides in the
Department of Religion, is well placed to complement the eventual chair holder
of Sikh Musicology, setting a precedent matched nowhere else in the
world, where both Shabad (Word) and Raag (Music) can be fruitfully researched
and taught. Hofstra University is set therefore to become a center for Sikh
Studies that will be internationally known for its two Chairs in Sikh Religion and
Music and their growing programs, workshops and conferences.
