Notes: There are 3 full-time positions available. Schedule of hours is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Will be required to work scheduled "On Call" duty, as well as respond to emergency call in overtime. Must wear University issued Shirt and Nametag.
Effective September 1, 2009, the University of California, Riverside has implemented a one-year Furlough/Salary Reduction Plan due to the state budget crisis. Under the plan, this position’s work time will be reduced by a specified number of days according to the salary for this position, with a commensurate reduction in pay evenly distributed over a 12-month period. http://budget.ucr.edu). Essential Functions: The purpose of this position is to maintain all UCR Housing Services and related facilities so as to promote a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for student residents and staff alike.
The primary responsibilities of a Zone Mechanic are to assist with the preservation and repair of all structures, building systems, infrastructure and grounds. As a Zone Mechanic, an individual will be responsible for, but not be limited to, skilled maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry, etc. Jobs can be created by work orders, scheduled maintenance programs, or by emergency call-in.
Minimum Requirements:
• Demonstrated experience performing skilled building maintenance including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, access control, and electrical work.
• Demonstrated experience safely using all hand and power tools common to all trades (which involve constant turning, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting) including prior experience working with 120V, 208V, 230V, and 277V wiring and equipment.
• Prior job experience in accurately determining the cause of and correction of malfunctions in HVAC units, and the skill to use all HVAC testing equipment and tools for diagnosis and repair.
• Skill to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal, and to perform basic mathematics calculations, reading blueprints, and electrical schematics.
• Proven time management skill and ability to prioritize daily work orders to complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Working knowledge of the safe and proper procedures when asbestos, lead paint, or mold is suspected when performing any of the essential job duties.
• Working knowledge of building codes, industrial safety standards, and code procedures.
• Basic working knowledge and skill with IBM compatible microcomputers with Windows operating systems.
• Proven ability to perform physically demanding work, moving materials weighing up to 70 pounds to and from pickup trucks, carts, and loading docks.
• Willingness and ability to work occasional scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency call-in overtime.
• Proven ability to work in confined areas while looking and reaching straight up to repair materials on ceilings, walls, and floors.
• Proven ability to work in dusty, vaporous, and smelly environments that include but are not limited to solvents, paints, human waste, and sawdust.
• Ability to work in conditions of high heat and humidity to below freezing.
• Ability to work in areas with constant noise from, but not limited to, supply and exhaust fans.
• Prior skill to safely work from ladders and scaffolding up to 18 feet high and on roofs up to four stories high.
• Hired candidate must possess a valid CA driver's license and will be maintained on the annual DMV pull notice; successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice; and complete a pre-employment physical examination.
Preferred Qualifications:
• EPA Refrigerant Certification; Universal.
